The implosion of the old Amway Arena here in Orlando, FL was one of the coolest things I have ever seen in my life. If you have never been to a building implosion I highly suggest you attend one if given the chance. The morning of the Amway Arena implosion was dreary and rainy right up until it was showtime. At 7am the rain stopped and the clouds started to move away. At 7:30am the action began. It only took a matter of seconds for the building to come crashing down but those seconds made a lasting impression. First all you heard was a low rumbling and the faint sounds of some of the explosives. Then boom, boom, boom, boom....fire, smoke, explosions and the building crashing to the ground. After the dust settled all of us spectators were allowed to walk up to the rubble for one last look at the building before it was hauled off to be recycled or sent to the dump.
It was a bitter sweet moment to watch all of this take place. The Amway Arena held quite a few fond memories for me including seeing Britney Spears, Tim McGraw, the Magic and many more perform over the years there. Below are a few pictures I took of the implosion.
